Traffic Violations

Often, when you get a traffic violation, it seems that the easiest thing to do is to pay the ticket in order to avoid spending the time necessary to contest it. However, doing so can affect your driving privileges and insurance rates. By paying the fme, you are pleading guilty and subjecting yourself to the unknown penalties later imposed by PENNDOT as a result. The accumulation of points on your driving record can lead to the suspension of your driving privileges and an increase in your insurance rates. Many traffic citations carry the immediate loss of driving privileges. You may not find out about this until it is too late to do anything about it.

Even if you think the police officer was justified in giving you a traffic citation, if the citation carries points or the suspension of your driving privileges, you should demand a hearing on the ticket. I have found that through skillful negotiation, the police officer is often willing to compromise and reduce the charge to one that will not be reported to PENNDOT and affect your driving privileges. Please give me a call so we can discuss whether you should choose to contest your traffic citation. Your initial consultation is free.
